Trip to Portsmouth

Today we travelled to Portsmouth to research the area and the people who were there. Starting off in Gunwharf Quays, we examined the human and physical geographical features and looked at the waterside regeneration of the area. We then worked very hard interviewing kind members of the public who stopped to answer our questions. It was a daunting task but one the children undertook with gusto (some generous but ultimately beleaguered shoppers ended up being interviewed by more than 3 groups in a row).

After meeting members of the public, we went for a warming hot chocolate. The nice people at the coffee shop had to work hard to make us 90 drinks but they were worth the wait.

We marched on, with warming fuel in our bellies, to Old Portsmouth where the new and old architecture merged. We stopped to examine different types of land use and to do some sketching of what we found.

After discussing the contrast between Old Portsmouth and Gunwharf, we carried on to Portsmouth City Museum. We learnt about the Ancient Egyptians, Arthur Conan Doyle, Portsmouth through the ages and to Mr. Stubbs' delight, Portsmouth FC!

We learnt lots and saw some interesting paintings but best of all, we ran into some very strange characters!

Well done to Mrs. Vickery for organising an excellent trip and a big well done to the Year 5/6 pupils of Redlands who represented their school so well. A massive thank you to Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Stubbs and Miss Young who helped us have a great time.
